Email Marketing 101 for Dummies

Like most of you, I get at least a dozen email promotions in my In-box every day. I actually open most of them, if they are from a reputable company or if its something I get on a regular basis. What never ceases to surprise me is the number of poorly designed email campaigns that I receive, some from...

Sorry its been so long since my last post, but with summer in Southern California, its hard to find time to sit down and focus on blogging. But, I promise to do better the next few months, so stay tuned! I have some great new marketing techniques to share with you all, but I just need to find the time and write this up in a meaningful way.

I am thrilled to announce that I am featured in this week’s MarketingSherpa!

I hope you guys are already subscribing to this resource, if not–shame on you! It has been a source of creative and tactical inspiration for me going on five years now. It is a paid subscription, and you guys know I hate paying for anything. I have a free subscription which gives you limited access to most of their materials, so just be diligent and print out anything you think you may need for a read later. For example, the articles in today’s issue will be free to all for the next seven days, but after that, its for the paid members only. (I guess not everyone is as cheap as me?)

Long story short, a few months ago I submitted a speaking proposal/case study to MarketingSherpa for their annual “MarketingSherpa B2B Summit” and was contacted recently by one of their great writers about including this case study as a feature article in their newsletter. The end result is “How to Turn a Trade Show Speech Into a Podcast That Becomes a Lead Machine“. A topic I covered briefly in this blog a few months ago. But, leave it to the inquisitive and probing editors at MarketingSherpa to really get to the meat & potatoes of the story. Once we started collaborating on this article, I was really astounded at the success of this campaign and hope that all of you will read the article and benefit from it.

The whole jist of the article is

  1. Never underestimate your audience desire for new and innovative ways to deliver the information they want.
  2. With any new marketing program, cover all your bases (i.e. C.Y.A!!!!). By that I mean, don’t rely on any single medium to promote the program—use all available means possible–email, list appending, specific PPC campaigns, SEO techniques on landing pages, and paid banner advertising (only if you get a great deal!)

Hope everyone is having a great summer and stay tuned to this blog for some good posts in the next few weeks. ;)
